I’m 49. And…what the fuck are you talking about?

I can tell you now that we’re uncharted territory. This is the third design from a single episode of anything ever. That episode being ‘Common People’, the opener for the seventh series of Black Mirror. I will try my best not to tread on old ground, but prior outings have been Honey Nugs and Thirst Trap – breakfast cereal and sex lubricant respectively. And now, in a dance as old as rime, we’re into the dating game.

I’ve done a couple of dating apps before (notably this and this), so was kind of running out of options a bit, especially considering we’re looking at a more ‘mature’ audience. I’ve mentioned before how little I know about this type of thing, so the addition of old people made the whole thing a bit more challenging. I say ‘old people’. As I’m rapidly running through the survey age groups myself, I don’t really view anyone as over fifty years of age as being ‘old’ at all. The older I get, the younger I think I am. If that makes sense? I thought I was old when I was 22. In my mid-thirties I realised I was actually young as fuck.

Midlife crises aside, we’re doing a couple of swan necks in a heart shape. Which kind of wrote itself. The fonts are based on a prior version of a dating service I always presumed to be geared towards a more mature audience.

We’re probably done with this episode now, I would’ve thought. There is another prominent ad in the show, but it’s centred around erectile dysfunction and more than anything I can’t bring myself to do four designs from one programme and 75% of them to be sex related.
