Hon, it doesn’t matter what you say you do, it’s how you say it. ‘I’m in PR’. Translation: ‘I give good head’.
As a brief disclaimer to the start of this one, I’d like to point out that I don’t really like Sex and the City. Though I am more than aware that I’m not the target audience. So any criticism you encounter is to be taken with a pinch of salt, as I’m not a woman and have never lived in New York in the late nineties.
So with that in mind, fuck this show. And by that I mean the characters. And by that I mostly mean Carrie Bradshaw. She (somehow) earns millions by writing the same shitty column for the New York Star every week. She lives in a luxury apartment in Manhattan and has an entire wardrobe full of Christian Louboutin shoes. And yet all she ever does is fucking complain. She’s a shallow, contemptuous cheater and that bit where she does the scat singing makes me want to die.
In fact, she’s such a terrible person, she makes the other three seem more tolerable by comparison. Well, Miranda’s still whiny as fuck, obviously. Charlotte is kind of fine. Just a bit of a towel. Samantha is actually alright. She knows what she wants and she usually gets it. An emotionless predator and proud. Fuck this show for making me side with someone with those character traits (who also happens to be a Liverpool fan IRL).
Anyway, she also suffers from the plight of being paid seemingly billions of dollars for doing fuck all. Welcome to the world of public relations. Given the duration of the programme, it’s kind of amazing how little her job is touched on. You see her at work every now and then, shredding documents and shouting at her phone but a visual reference to any sort of branding or logo is never seen. We just know that she works for herself and does PR.
The logo I’ve devised here is a rehashing of Robert Indiana’s iconic LOVE sculpture, which is synonymous with New York. The slogan is the second line of Samantha’s infamous quote ‘I am harsh. I am also demanding, stubborn, self-sufficient and always right’. I figured straplines usually go for a three rather than a five, and ‘in bed’, ‘at the office’ and ‘everywhere else’ are technically places. Like a sort of New York, London, Tokyo office kind of deal.
Aaaand now I’ve just remembered the Geri Halliwell bit. Fuck this show.
